Soft flooring, home decor strong in 2Q at Lowe's 2Q
Mooresville, NC - The summery flooring and home décor categories contributed to the gains - albeit modest - in sales and comps at tellingly improvement chain Lowe's Companies Inc. during the second quarter.
Larry Stone, president and coo, said woolly flooring, especially carpet, "has been very strong for us." He warned, however, that the up to date strides are still not up to par with pre-recession periods.
"We are seeing a good lift, but not as big a ticket we would have seen four or five years ago," Stone continued. "Our form businesses and home décor are still really good, albeit the big ticket [issues also sophisticated in flooring]."
Gordmans, Ambow IPOs Don't Generate Much Excitement
Midwestern retail restrain Gordmans Stores Inc.'s (GMAN) IPO ended its first day of trading unchanged Thursday, while Chinese indoctrination company Ambow Education Holding Ltd. (AMBO) declined during its debut.
The two companies' reaction in the U.S. underscores how price-sensitive investors remain when it comes to new stocks. Gordman managed to end the day dry only after it cut its asking price, and Ambow's sank when it priced at the low end of its expected range. Both companies launched their sign public offerings on a day when broader market indices were in negative territory.
