My art is about
life, as it is spent day-to-day. It is primarily A visual diary
with an openings for Interpretations and a space for thinking
about life as it passes by. For me life Is something to be
thought about.
It is therefore a form of thought. |

Pushpakumara is an expressionist in a unique sense, I call him
unique because his paintings are formed in a manner that is so
uncharacteristic Of expressionistic painting tradition of Sri
Lanka. His current works are softer than they ever were. They
are subtly multi-layered, sketchy and translucent. In a way his
works effect an unfinished ambience. The sketchiness, The
softness and the indecisiveness of the brush strokes, the
colours and of the positioning of the figures in his current
works have made them strongly “original ” in an expressionistic
sense. What this means is that he has consciously and,
therefore, rationally institutionalized and classicized within
one of the main streams of modernism in Sri Lanka. In
short, it can be argued that pushpakumara is Trying to act think
like an uninitiated youth while keeping in mind the capabilities
of an experienced adult in the visual arts.
